Affiliate Marketing: A Way To Make Money Whilst Building Your Business
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
This marketing is not new. It has been around since 1994. It’s an online marketing practice in which you, through your marketing efforts, promote an online business or service. In exchange for your efforts, you are paid a commission. This could be a percentage of the sales generated, or a specific agreed amount. Basically, you put a banner or link on your website. When the banner or link gets clicks, that traffic is driven from your website, blog, newsletter to the website or lead capture page of the merchant whose product you are promoting.
The transaction therefore includes you, the merchant and the customer who buys the product that you are promoting. In cases where merchants do not run their own ‘in-house’ affiliate program, a management agency will also be involved. Merchants who do have such a program will usually have a link on their website that you can click on to get more information about it. Which Programs Should I Promote?
This is a critical question! You must choose products or services that will be relevant to your niche market. This is essential, as you will be promoting the products within your value-based website or blog content that you have written for your target audience. Furthermore, your audience will expect you to have knowledge and expertise in regard to the products that you are promoting, given that you think they are appropriate for them. If you try to promote products to your audience that have no relevance to them, then you will quickly lose their trust. You Are Running A Business After All! Nobody should be offended by being offered the opportunity to click on a link, provided that this is balanced by your audience having received value from your content. And provided that the product could also be of interest and value to them. You are, after all, in business and deserve to make money as a result of your honest, hard work. One thing that may have upset people about affiliate links in the past, is not being informed that they were clicking on one! There has recently been a real tightening up in this area. You can be assured that whenever you are offered a link on my website I will inform you if it is an affiliate one. This has another advantage. You will also gradually become aware of how you too can start to make money through seeing where I use this means of generating an income on my website whilst building my business.
